It was on a turbocharged Toyota Echo, tach was mounted on the dash, pointed towards the windshield. It worked perfectly at night, and didn't seem to be too distracting. The speedometer on those cars is mounted in the center of the dash, not in front of the driver, which is kinda gay, but it made it easy to install the tach.
